Online show empowers youth

WITH the rise of online content in Namibia, the Youth Power Group (YPG) recently introduced the live show ‘YPG Dynamic’ which aims to foster youth engagement mid the Covid-19 pandemic.

Coordinator and life coach at YPG, Shawn Mogotsi says they decided to host the show because many young people are consuming content online. “We want to especially educate and entertain during the lockdown. We find it a great platform to reach out to the youth. It is the purpose of the YPG to impact the lives of young

people. This new platform is about empowering the youth. Helping them realise the potential they have, that they can be more than what they think,” Mogotsi said.

The show kicked off on 29 March and takes place online weekly. Mogotsi explained that different topics were discussed, dealing with issues that young people in our communities face. To date topics such as investing in yourself, staying focused, opportunities, my heritage, comfort zone, hero and unity have been tackled. Still to come are issues surrounding bullying, individuality, growing up too fast and career choices. Besides the online show, Mogotsi says YPG members are found across the country and work with the Namibian youth through mentorships in terms of life skills, tutoring, educating and empowering youth from all walks of life. YPG was formed in 1999 by a group of young adults and it focuses on sharing practical guidance for a new way of life. YPG is part of the youth ministry of the Universal Church and aims to spread the Gospel as well. Mogotsi said he is pleased with the establishment of the group as he has personally seen many lives changing for the better through its programmes. “You will see how youngsters go from being tired of everything and everyone, to finding happiness and peace. The YPG team goes out with the motivation to help those who are suffering. “The organisation was formed to help young people who face challenges in their lives. We want the youth to be a positive influence.” Mogotsi says the organisation focuses on young people because they are the future leaders of our country.

“If the youth are not empowered, mentored, educated and well taken care of, then our future will not be bright,” he said. Besides the online show, the YPG team also offers free tutoring for Augustinium and Ella du Plessis pupils, self-awareness courses for young girls, and they have released songs and music videos to inspire the youth.
