A baby (1) who was allegedly kidnapped near Okahao District Hospital on Tuesday has been found safe, with a suspect having been arrested.
Omusati regional commander commissioner Ismael Basson says the incident took place at Okahao on 21 April at around 17h30.
“It alleged that the mother of a baby boy and the alleged suspect, who are both Angolan nationals, met in Okahao town and exchanged their cellphone contact numbers,” he says.
Basson says while walking together, the mother noticed that one of the baby’s shoes were missing and asked the suspect to hold the child while she went to look for it.
“Upon returning to the place, she did not find the suspect or her baby,” Basson says.
The mother then called the suspect’s cellphone number. He allegedly answered, saying he was waiting for her, before switching off the phone.
The police were alerted and launched a search operation, which led to the tracing of both the suspect and the baby.
