The Bank Windhoek Namibia Volleyball Federation (NVF) Cup reaches its decisive stage this weekend, with eight teams heading to the Dome at Swakopmund to battle for the titles and places in the 2027 MTC Volleyball National League.
The 18th edition began with teams competing at Otjiwarongo, with the top four teams in both the men’s and women’s divisions progressing to the semi-finals.
Speaking to Desert FM on the Midday Report (MDR), NVF chief executive Festus Hamukwaya says the final round is expected to be highly competitive, with promotion adding further significance to the matches.
“The semi-finals, everybody will play with everything that they have to ensure that once you reach the final, you get yourself a seat for your club at the National League,” Hamukwaya says.
In the women’s semi-finals, DTS will face Coastal Warriors, while Shining Stars take on NCS.
The men’s semi-finals will see Mighty Gunners face Erongo NamPol, while Unam Kings meet Quiver.
The semi-final winners will advance to the gold medal matches, while the losing teams will contest the bronze medal matches.
Hamukwaya says promotion to the MTC Volleyball National League provides clubs and players with an important pathway to the highest level of domestic volleyball.
“It gives a lot of boost to an athlete. You get to play at the national league. It’s the highest standard as far as volleyball is concerned in the country,” he says.
Hamukwaya also highlights talent identification as one of the key lessons from the Otjiwarongo round, saying the federation wants to strengthen structures across the regions and ensure emerging talent is identified and developed.
Meanwhile, the federation recently held a five-day management and administrative training programme, bringing together 31 participants from seven regions.
The training covered good governance, financial management, marketing and resource mobilisation, with Hamukwaya saying it forms part of the NVF’s capacity-building strategy.
The volleyball action starts at 08h00 on Saturday, with free entrance for supporters.
