I’M a Namibian currently in USA. I would like to know if Mr Shilamba is aware that a group of eight trainees at NamPower are not receiving any monthly allowance which is stipulated in their contracts.
On the first page it states that ‘NamPower wishes to assist in developing the Namibian youth and is willing to award a bursary which will cover in-house training costs plus a monthly bursary allowance to the bursar…’.
One might argue that this allowance is used for pay for the bursar’s medical aid, but on a different page under NamPower’s Obligations it’s stated that one of these obligations is ‘to pay for the bursar’s medical scheme’.
Many of these children come from disadvantaged backgrounds, therefore i don’t understand the stance that NamPower has taken, especially since other trainees are getting an allowance but they all signed an identical contract. Is that not breach of contract?
Its clear that those children have been given a unique chance, but its also clear that there is something wrong. How could NamPower have done this to these poor trainees when they are just as important as anyone else in the company?
They have a lot to offer the company in the future. Could we really have expected something this selfish from such a respected company? This very sad indeed. Mr Shilamba please look into it.
