Namibian starlets in Germany

NAMIBIAN football has again benefited from its partnership with the Germany government, as an under-20 team will hold a training camp in Westphalia this week.

A squad of 20 players selected by the Ministry of Sport and Namibia Football Association have been in Germany since Sunday and will remain in the training camp until June 14.According to Jakes Amaning of the NFA Youth Football desk, the training camp came as a result of the cooperation agreement between the two governments, under which a Namibian youth soccer team annually visits Germany for training. The squad consists mainly of players earmarked for the new national under-20 side but includes older players such as goalkeeper Collin Ndjai, strikers Benson Shilongo and Roger Katjiteo, defender Robinson Iyambo and the midfield duo of Alpheus Handura and Neville Tjiueza.’Most of the guys are the starting blocks for our new under-20 and very young (born in 1993) but also on the trip are some experienced youth players, who are part of the under-23 team who will just help the new guys to ensure a smooth transition,’ Amaning said. The team is headed by Brave Warriors assistant coach Bernard Kaanjuka with Christy Guruseb as coach and Roger Kambatuku as the team manager.
