Namibia poised to be knowledge-based country

Kehad Snydewel

Green Enterprise Solution, a company providing information and communication technology services in Namibia, says concerted efforts are being made for Namibia to become a knowledge-based economy through embracing the digital transformation.

The company’s managing director, Kehad Snydewel, says for this to be realised, new technologies and innovations need to be embraced, adding that access to the internet and the uptake of smartphones has been a major catalyst in the transformation of the country thus far.

He says there are currently several drivers of technology, globally and locally, that will help propel Namibia into a knowledge-based and tech savvy society.

“Before we can truly embrace innovation and the fourth and fifth Industrial Revolutions, the Metaverse or artificial ntelligence (AI), some fundamentals must be in place,” Snydewel says.

The expansion of the 5G wireless, known as the fifth generation of wireless technology, is the updated version of the 1G, 2G, 3G and 4G wireless networks and it will deliver increased internet speeds, more bandwidth for data to be sent and received, better coverage and much greater Wi-Fi coverage for Namibia.

Snydewel says Namibia can compete with the rest of the world regarding technology and innovation by leveraging 5G.

“With the introduction of 5G, our nation can recover and grow economically. Processing, capturing, analysing, as well as sending and receiving data, becomes child’s play,” he says.

Snydewel says there is also a need for Namibia to start developing skills to implement AI in different sectors, as AI can benefit Namibia if the country has the knowledge of how to best harness the technology.

“One of my expectations is that when we deliver internet connectivity to our people, it is the path to real development.

If all of this is in place, the benefits of connected devices can help make Namibia a technologically-advanced society and help us in building our economy, our education and most importantly our people,” he says.

Founded in 2010, Green Enterprises Solution is a Namibian company, with a vision guided by the government’s Harambee Prosperity Plan, the Fifth National Development Plan and Vision 2030.
