Namibia condemns Israel’s Gaza plan, urges global intervention

NAMIBIA, through its international relations ministry, has called on global intervention to prevent a worsening humanitarian crisis in Gaza.

These concerns were expressed by Ministry of International Relations and Trade executive director Penda Naanda in a statement on Wednesday.

This follows the recent approval by the Israeli Security Cabinet of a plan to take control of Gaza City.

This decision, Naanda said, stands to significantly worsen an already dire humanitarian crisis marked by hunger, deprivation, and risk of forced starvation.

He said Namibia supports any initiative to address the crisis in the best interest of both Palestinian and Israeli people.

“The ministry reiterates Namibia’s unwavering and principled position in favour of peace and dialogue, as envisioned through the relevant United Nations General Assembly and Security Council resolutions,” said Naanda.

He said Namibia will continue to urge all parties and the international community to work towards restoring hope, security, and justice for those striving to exercise their right to live in peace and dignity.

Naanda stated that the ministry welcomes the international condemnation of this plan, which is guided by the principles enshrined in the Namibian Constitution.

He added that Namibia continues to advocate for the peaceful resolution of international disputes and remains firmly committed to supporting initiatives that promote and protect the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people.

“Drawing on our own history of overcoming illegal occupation and apartheid, Namibia fully understands the cost of oppression and hopes and dreams of freedom. Our nation’s experience fuels our empathy and solidarity with those enduring denial of self‑determination,” he stated.
