Namibia, China sign nine cooperation agreements

Namibia and China have signed nine cooperation agreements covering economic development, health, education, mining, agriculture, tourism, media and technology during President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah’s state visit to China.

This was confirmed by the Presidency in a statement issued on Sunday.

This follows the conclusion of Nandi-Ndaitwah’s visit to China from 6 to 11 July, where she met her counterpart, president Xi Jinping.

The agreements include an economic partnership for shared development agreement, a paired hospital cooperation mechanism, and an agreement on technical vocational education and training.

“The two countries also signed agreements on cooperation in green minerals, the implementation of the 2026 Human Resources Development Cooperation Plan, and cooperation between China Media Group and the Namibia Tourism Board,” the Presidency says.

Regarding agriculture, the Presidency says the two governments concluded a protocol setting phytosanitary requirements for the export of fresh Namibian table grapes to the Chinese market.

The countries exchanged a letter paving the way for a Chinese expert group to conduct a feasibility study on the second phase of the China-aided satellite ground data receiving station and processing system in Namibia.

They also endorsed minutes of an on-site inspection and meeting on the feasibility study of the proposed Namibian smart city pilot project, signed in Namibia on 3 July.
