Murder accused Shikwaya says he is innocent in Shiweda case

Murder accused Petrus Shikwaya says he will not take responsibility for crimes he claims he had no part in committing.

Shikwaya (22) made the remarks during his bail hearing at the Ondangwa Magistrate’s Court yesterday.

He is one of six men accused of attacking and killing Ondangwa prosecutor, Justine Shiweda in October last year.

State prosecutor Yukai Kangira told the court that Shikwaya is not a suitable candidate for bail.

“I have nothing to do with what led to the death of Justine Shiweda,” Shikwaya told the court.

Kangira, however, alleged that Shikwaya played a role in the crime.

“You bought the vehicle that was used to transport the acid to the north and sent the money that was used to purchase the acid used to kill Justine,” Kangira said.

Shikwaya denied any knowledge of the alleged plan, saying he did not know what the money would be used for when he sent it and that he had no connection to the person who ultimately received it.

“I sent the money on the instructions of Abner Mateus,” he said.

Kangira dismissed the explanation, saying ignorance would not absolve him of responsibility.

“Your ignorance will not help you in this case. Who else must die if you are released on bail?” Kangira asked.

Shikwaya maintained his innocence.

“I had zero participation in what happened. I did not commit murder, nor did I conspire to attack or kill Justine. I will not go down for something I did not do,” Shikwaya said.
