The Let’s Read Project is an initiative by The Namibian aimed at promoting literacy and a reading culture primarily among the youth in Namibia. It will also serve to assist needy communities to have access to reading material.
The Let’s Read Project involves sponsors who support a needy organisation and/or school(s) in Namibia by donating monthly sets of The Namibian to these institutions, as part of their corporate social responsibility programme.
These bound sets will be of great value to the schools as research material for learners, and also to build up their own library collection. Given the content of The Namibian, pupils will be able to enjoy national and international news, sport, entertainment and other lifestyle issues of interest to the youth. The project will also help gather and deliver other reading material to the needy, and especially rural schools
Corporates can get involved in the Let’s Read project and improve literacy and reading in our country.
A donation of N$10 000 per annum (or N$5000 for six months) will ensure that a deserving institution in Namibia will receive a monthly set of newspapers for a 12 month period. The Namibian will ensure that the newspapers are properly bound, indicating the name of the sponsor concerned, plus the name of the recipient school or organisation.
The Namibian will also take care of all the logistics to have the bound sets delivered to the closest outlet or post office of the specific institution.
For sponsors, it is a valuable benefit knowing that their annual donation is applied to, and will directly contribute towards supporting improving literacy in Namibia. It will also enable those in remote and under-privileged communities the opportunity to read and stay abreast of news and trends.
A once-off donation will have a tangible 12 month impact on the recipient organisation and the persons linked to it.
All sponsors will be acknowledged in The Namibian, and where possible, we will also feature photographs and regular updates on the schools and/or organisations concerned.
