Mondesa fire victims receive emergency supplies

The office of the Swakopmund mayor has stepped in to provide assistance to Mondesa fire victims.

They provided essentials like food, blankets, clothing and other necessities.

Swakopmund mayor Blasius Goraseb urged residents to take precautions against fire hazards, after four homes were gutted on Monday.

The fire took place on Richard Tjaondjo street in Mondesa on 24 March, destroying three informal structures as well as one formal structure.

Chief fire officer Bainga Matengu said, “Firefighting equipment was immediately deployed and [rescue workers] initiated the fire suppression, search and rescue operation to control and prevent further spread of fire to the neighbouring structures. The blaze was successfully controlled and extinguished.”

The fire was caused by an illegal electrical connection.
