Modestus Amutse appointed new energy minister

President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah on Tuesday appointed Modestus Amutse as the new minister of industries, mines and energy, effective 2 December.

He replaces Natangwe Ithete who was dismissed as minister in October. The appointment, made in line with Article 35 of the Constitution, follows months of the portfolio being managed in an acting capacity by defence minister Frans Kapofi.

In a statement, the president thanks Kapofi for his leadership and support during the interim period.

Amutse previously served as deputy minister of information and communication technology, member of parliament, chairperson of a National Assembly standing committee and held leadership roles at the regional level – experience the Presidency says positions him well for the portfolio.
