The Ministry of Health and Social Services has launched its own administrative investigation into rape accused Dennis Noa (31).
Noa, a medical intern stationed at Onandjokwe Intermediate Hospital, was arrested in connection with an alleged rape of a man (26) at hospital accommodation.
Health executive director Penda Ithindi on Monday said the ministry views the allegations with the utmost seriousness.
“Such allegations are deeply concerning and are fundamentally inconsistent with the ethical standards, professional conduct and values expected from all health professionals serving under the ministry,” Ithindi said.
He said the matter is under investigation by the police and that the ministry has activated its own disciplinary processes.
“While the criminal investigation is underway, the ministry has also activated its internal administrative investigation and internal actions in accordance with the Public Service Act and applicable regulations,” he said.
The ministry condemned sexual violence and said it remains committed to providing a safe environment for patients, staff and the public.
“The ministry unequivocally condemns all forms of sexual violence and remains steadfast in its commitment to ensuring a safe, respectful and professional healthcare environment for patients, staff members and the public,” Ithindi said.
He urged the public to allow the legal process to continue without interference.
Noa made his first appearance in the Ondangwa Magistrate’s Court on Monday before Magistrate Nelao ya France. The matter was postponed 27 July for a formal bail application.
