Mine company donates textbooks to coastal school

Deep Yellow Limited’s Reptile Mineral Resources and Exploration (RMR) on Monday donated textbooks and educational equipment to Narraville Secondary School at Walvis Bay.

Walvis Bay education inspector Theresia Goagoses identified the need for textbooks at Narraville Primary School, especially for Grade 9 pupils.

In response, RMR donated 21 textbooks for subjects including English, geography, physical science, life science, agricultural, history, maths, accounting and entrepreneurship.

The company also donated a projector and mobile screen to help bring lessons to life.

The total value of the donation comes to approximately N$42 000.

Guardian principal Anton van Wyk told The Namibian since the school was opened in January, the approximately 330 pupils from grades 7 to 9 still do not have textbooks and have to depend on printed copies.

“The orders have been placed, but it is a new school, so we are expecting the textbooks soon,” he said, adding that the Grade 9s are writing their semi-externals soon.

“We are just very grateful for this donation. It will really help,” Van Wyk said.

RMR exploration manager Katrin Kärner highlighted the importance of collaboration with the directorate to meet educational needs.

“May these textbooks serve as valuable resources, igniting curiosity and fuelling the thirst for knowledge among students.

Together, let’s continue to invest in the future generation’s education and empower them to reach their full potential,” she said at the donation ceremony.

“The textbooks will enhance the learning experience, while the projector and screen will contribute to creating a more stimulating and inclusive learning environment, ultimately benefiting both pupils and teachers,” Goagoses said.
