Mariental to rein in shebeens

MARIENTAL – The Municipality at this southern town has decided to draw up regulations to control the mushrooming of shebeens in its two residential areas, namely, Aimablaagte and Empelheim.

In an interview with Nampa, the Municipality’s Chief Executive Officer, Paul Nghiwilepo, said shebeens in the two residential areas were increasing at a rapid rate and needed to be regulated. “The mushrooming of shebeens is getting out of hand,” said Nghiwilepo.”The draft regulation contains among others, procedures to be followed when one wants to set up a shebeen and how it will operated in accordance with the requirements of the Liquor Act,” said Nghiwilepo.He said consultations had started between the Municipality and community on the proposed regulations.- Nampa”The mushrooming of shebeens is getting out of hand,” said Nghiwilepo. “The draft regulation contains among others, procedures to be followed when one wants to set up a shebeen and how it will operated in accordance with the requirements of the Liquor Act,” said Nghiwilepo.
