Abandoned Walvis baby’s mother traced

The police at Walvis Bay have confirmed that the mother of the year-old baby, who was found abandoned in the dunes outside the town on Saturday, has been traced.

Erongo police spokesperson chief inspector Ileni Shapumba says the baby’s mother (24) was found selling kapana at a local shebeen at Kuisebmond, after a community member called the police.

She allegedly attempted to run away, but has been detained for further investigation.

“We express our gratitude to the public for their assistance in this case.

“We are still investigating the matter, and will communicate on further police action,” he says.
