Man arrested for attempted rape at Olumbongo

A MAN (21) has been arrested for allegedly attempting to rape a woman (30) at Olumbongo in the Oshikoto region on Saturday at around 02h00.
Namibian Police regional commander commissioner Theopoline Kalompho-Nashikaku on Sunday said the suspect and the victim were reportedly socialising together at a local bar, and while on the way to another place, the suspect allegedly grabbed her and pushed her into some water.

“The victim screamed for help and people came to her rescue,” Kalompho-Nashikaku said.

The suspect is an Angolan national and is expected to appear in the Ondangwa Magistrate’s Court on Monday.

In a separate incident, a motorist (31) was arrested for hitting two pedestrians on the sidewalk of the B1 road at Omuthiya on Saturday at around 21h10.

According to Kalompho-Nashikaku, the driver of a silver hatchback with a Windhoek registration was driving from a western to eastern direction when he lost control of his vehicle, causing it to leave the road and hit the pedestrians.

“The pedestrians sustained injuries and were taken to the Omuthiya district hospital, where one of them was discharged while the other

was admitted and is said to be in a stable condition. The suspect did not sustain any injuries,” she said.

The suspect has been charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and driving without a driving licence. He is expected to appear in the Ondangwa Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
