Lawn bowls attract big names

THE Windhoek Country Club Trips Tournament kicks off today and is set to showcase for lawn bowling.

Prize monies of over N$50 000 have attracted local big names, the likes of Elaine Krahenbuhl, Tollie Cronje, Bea Lamprecht and Graham Snyman. The field of 60 includes Commonwealth medal winners, national team members and players from South Africa.The format of play is mixed alternating trips, which gives each of the men and women in the team five ends a game at skipping their team. Each game is made up of 15 ends and teams are allocated points per game through a scoring system and matched against their next opponents on a strength-versus-strength basis.The tournament runs from July 16-18 at the Windhoek Country Club Bowling greens. Play starts at 08h00 on each day and ends after 17h00.There is no entrance fee for spectators and the public is invited to attend.The tournament is a lead up to the Namibian Open Championships and with players nearing their peak for the season, competition is set to be stiff.For further information, contact Ken Morland – Tournament Director at 081 129 7277.
