The Dogg has finally joined the Kora Awards fray after he was nominated for the Best Male Artist for Southern Africa for this year’s edition of the prestigious continental music competition.
The Kwaito Master, as the powerfully voice rapper is popularly known in local music circles, could hardly contain his excitement as he broke the news to The Namibian yesterday.’Musically it is a great honour to be nominated for this coveted music award. The Koras are the biggest music stage in Africa and having been a regular nominee at the Channel O Awards recently, I am very proud.’This is a dream come true for me and a clear indication that my work is recognised beyond the borders of my country. I am riding at the highest level and very soon I hope to reach the global market,’ he said. One of the most decorated Namibian artists, The Dogg said his nomination should be seen as representative of the country as a whole and not him alone as an individual.’The world out there is watching and following our artists very closely. People are realising that we have talent hence these kind of nominations. This should be seen as a celebration for Namibian music,’ he enthused. If negotiations go in his favour, The Dogg could also be performing at the event, which saw Gal Level representing Namibia for the first time when they were nominated in the Best Female Group Southern Africa in 2008.Official nominations for the Kora Awards, which were started by Ivorian national Ernest Adjovi, who is also the present chairperson and executive producer of the awards, will take place on October 25.The final event is slated for December 30 in Abidjan, Ivory Coast.
