Kick-start your festive season with Dance Week

IF YOU are trying to get in shape this summer or just want to meet new people, Dance Week is for you! A fun-filled week for children and adults alike organised by Dance Factory Swakopmund starts with a celebration and get-together on Friday, 2 December.

The evening will be about meeting the dance instructors and all the other participants and will take place at Cosdef at Swakopmund at 17h00.

This will be followed by a six-day workshop where you can choose which dance style speaks most to you.

A dinner show on 9 December with performances by participants will conclude this amazing week.

Carmen Waldeck, owner of Dance Factory, said: “As sponsorships are hard to come by for this kind of event, we have to ask fees for the workshop to cover costs. Not everyone can afford this, but we want to make Dance Week for everyone! Therefore, this year, we will be offering a free workshop day on 2 December from 14h00 to 16h00 for those who cannot afford it. We hope that the children who attend this will perform for us at the opening later that day”.

A huge range of dancing genres are on the cards for this year – the eigth time – including hip-hop, pole dancing, African contemporary, modern contemporary, (contact) improvisation, contemporary floor-work, belly dancing, yoga, stretching, musical dance for kids, show jazz, ballet training and classic ballet repertoire, amongst others.

Waldeck added that at the end of Dance Week, there will be a show/performance night.

This year it will be on 9 December at 19h00 at the Swakopmund Town Hall. Tickets will be available from 2 December at the Dance Factory studio.

During this show, participants of Dance Week and invited guest teachers (three from Europe) will showcase what they have learnt during the workshop. As there are more than 15 different dance styles during Dance Week, it promises to be a highly entertaining show for anyone at the coast to enjoy.

More than 11 dance teachers/instructors including Trixie Munyama, Nikhita Winkler, Sascha Olivier and Sasha Alex Mugaviri, amongst others, will have the opportunity to intensively train prospect dancers for the week.

Appoximately 26 classes a day will be taking place until 8 December.
