A deacon (69) of the Catholic Church at Nkurenkuru who allegedly killed his son (31) in 2024 was granted bail of N$5 000 at the Rundu Magistrate’s Court yesterday.
It is alleged that Markus Musonga shot his son, Felix Musonga, twice in October 2024 at Siudiva after an argument erupted between them over Markus’s wife’s phone.
He is facing four charges, namely murder read with the domestic violence act, assault read with the domestic violence act, assault by threat read with the domestic violence act and discharging of a firearm.
His next court appearance is on 17 June.
Magistrate Selma Shiiga said his bail conditions are that he reports himself twice a week during working hours to the investigating officer at Kahenge Police Station.
She added that he is to remain within the Rundu district for the duration of his case and if he needs to travel he needs permission from the investigating officer.
“Furthermore, he must relocate from Siudiva village to his farm called Bravo and inform the investigating officer of his exact location. He must not apply for any new passport or travelling pass until the finalisation of this matter. He is not to communicate with the complainant or witnesses in this matter nor interfere with investigations. He must ensure he attends all the court dates,” she said.
Shiiga warned that if Musonga fails to adhere to these bail conditions then a warrant of arrest will be issued immediately, bail will be withdrawn and bail money provisionally forfeited to the state.
The state was represented by prosecutor Hillia Munzenze.
