Keep The Peace

I am quite disturbed at the current trend of racism that has emerged, especially in neighbouring South Africa where it’s such an obvious issue.

I can’t fathom the thought of this reality that is such a sad case in a world striving for better tomorrows. And I wonder how our world can become better with mindsets that clearly belong in the rubbish bin.

Are we not past those stages where your skin colour determined your fate? I am confused as to where we are headed in this life – an era that is supposed to vouch for growth and development, but struggles immensely with mindsets that are stuck in the past.

And while the topic of race is quite aggressive in South Africa, Namibia is not left out with racial comments here and there that clearly indicate the fact that some mindsets are stuck in fear and prejudice.

Thumbs up to those of you who embrace liberty and freedom – free from racial bondage. I firmly believe those without racial prejudice have a much more relaxing life than those who choose to determine the fate of the next person’s presence in their lives due to their skin colour.

We really have to do away with the past. Apartheid is history, people! It takes my breath away to think of how a country where the great Nelson Mandela worked so hard for peace is now turning into what I call ‘a complete zoo’.

Sad to think that all his sacrifices, determination and perseverance for a better future for a country with so much potential, is being wasted.

Regardless of Namibia’s struggles, I am glad I live here and not in South Africa. It’s such a mess of a place to be in right now. Just look at their parliament, their MPs are a joke most of the time. God forbid anyone raise an opinion counter to the man who occupies the highest seat in that country.

Nevertheless, I sometimes wonder whether I have reason to be concerned that issues in South African could have influence on our beautiful country, seeing that we are so closely linked and generally highly affected, especially on an economic front by developments in the neighboring country.

We certainly have plenty of social issues that need healing. Personally I’ve experienced a racial encounter from time to time – but clearly not as aggressive as things currently appear to be in South Africa.

I do pray and hope from the bottom of my heart that Namibia grows positively and that the mindsets of my fellow Namibians will do the same.

Gents, it’s about us being considerate of future generations and the environment in which they will live. Nobody wants to bring children into a world of hatred and war. We all want our to live in peace, having hope, and endless opportunities to be great and live a meaningful and happy life.

I am sure we all realise that the decisions we make and the actions we put in place today will have a powerful impact on the future of our country.

And it begins with the simplest of things in our day to day lives, including the way we treat others – regardless of race, riches, status and sexuality. It begins at home, with the way we treat our family and all those who cross our path.

My motto ‘your attitude towards life determine life’s attitude towards you’ reminds me every day my future is determined by the way I treat people today.

It’s not easy to be the best version of ourselves but it is important to always try. Treat people with respect – that is where peace begins. We are all human beings, with different personalities, struggles and dreams – all living in the same world, we need to meet each other half way .

We are a peaceful country. Let’s keep it that way. And strive for even better.

Till next time, cheers.
