BRAVE Warriors interim coach Bernard Kaanjuka sees Monday’s friendly against Lesotho as an opportunity to build a strong foundation for his tenure
Speaking ahead of the encounter at the Independence Stadium in Windhoek, the acting coach expressed his desire to do well in his first official match in charge at the helm of the senior national team.
‘I have worked with youth national teams for some time and now is the time for me also prove myself on this another top level and I’m ready for it,’ he said. ‘You can only lay a good foundation once you start well and starting well means getting a win against Lesotho.’The coach also said he will use the match to select players to feature against Djibouti in the 2014 Fifa World Cup preliminary round match first leg on November 11 in Djibouti City.’It is also a chance for the players to prove to me and the nation that they are the best candidates for the job and they must just deliver’ Kaanjuka advised the players.Last week, the technical team released a squad of 20 players for the match against Lesotho and coach Kaanjuka said the first training session will be on Sunday afternoon at 14h00 at the NFA technical centre.The coach also called on the nation to rally behind the team: ‘The football-loving people have to come and see what these guys can do and I promise them it will be a good night because I know the players and I believe and trust them’.The following players are expected to report for camp on Sunday morning:Goalkeepers: Arnold Subeb (Black Africa), Maximillian Mbaeva, (African Stars), Defenders: Steven Sabatha (Tigers), Ananias Gebhardt (Tigers), Da Costa Angula (Black Africa), Chris Katjiukua (African Stars), Willem Mwendihanga (Tigers), Teberius Lombard (Orlando Pirates), Denzil Hoaseb (Black Africa).Midfielders: Heinrich Isaacks (Civics), Willy Stephanus (Black Africa), Eslin Kamuhanga (Black Africa), Brian Bantam (Black Africa), Ronald Ketjijere (African Stars), Petrus Shitembi (Rundu Chiefs), Alfeus Handura (Tura Magic).Strikers: Sidney Urikhob (Ramblers), Roger Katjiteo (Black Africa) and Benson Shilongo (Tigers).
