The Ministry of Health and Social Services has confirmed a cholera case in the Kunene region.
Executive director of health and social services Ben Nangombe reported this on Tuesday.
This is the first cholera case reported in Namibia in 10 years.
“The Ministry of Health and Social Services wishes to inform the nation that one case of cholera has been confirmed in Namibia on 2 March 2025.
“A 55-year-old female patient presented at Opuwo District Hospital in the Kunene region, exhibiting symptoms of watery diarrhoea for the preceding two days,” Nangombe said.
He said the patient received appropriate treatment as per the established guidelines.
“A stool sample was collected on 3 March and sent for laboratory testing. The outcome confirmed a positive result for cholera on 10 March 2025. The patient has since recovered and was discharged in a stable condition,” Nangombe said.
