Dickson Karomuine, accused of murdering Gephardt Doëseb (11), will remain in custody after his first appearance in the Rehoboth Magistrate’s Court on Thursday.
Gephardt, a Grade 5 pupil at Acasia Primary School at Rehoboth, was reported missing on 11 September after he failed to return home from school.
His body was discovered the following day in a riverbed at Rehoboth by girls who were herding goats in the area.
His mother’s partner, Karomuine, was arrested in connection to his murder.
The matter was postponed to 26 November for further investigations.
During the court proceedings, the state indicated that investigations had not yet been finalised and opposed bail.
The state said the matter was serious as it involved the alleged killing of a child.
It further raised concerns that the accused could interfere with investigations or witnesses if released on bail.
Members of the Rehoboth community gathered at the court on Thursday calling for justice.
