Govt urges industry to create favourable conditions for labour

Prime minister Saara Kuugongelwa-Amadhila has called on industry players and employers to embrace workers as strategic partners and to promote workers’ empowerment.

In her May Day commemoration message, Kuugongelwa-Amadhila said happy workers are more productive.

“Investment in workers’ empowerment: in their professional development, safety and wellness and fair remuneration, is a prerequisite for profitable businesses because a happy and skilled worker is motivated and more productive.”

May Day, marked on 1 May annually, is a celebration of labour and the working class, and is promoted by international labour movements.
“As an employer, government strives to be an employer of choice, offering civil servants a conducive working environment to perform optimally, by offering competitive remuneration, attractive tools of trade, promoting professional staff development, job satisfaction, employees wellness, safety at work and by bridging the gender gap.”

Kuugongelwa-Amadhila said the government remains committed to exploring avenues to propel Namibia towards prosperity for all, in line with Vision 2030.

She further called on workers to prepare to be part of the opportunities offered by green hydrogen and oil and gas initiatives.
