IN his book ‘The Princes’ Machiavelli held that argument is healthy.
However at times one has to swallow one’s pride. It seems it is at times hard to tell the truth but easy to lie.Very often lies seem to be more convincing than the truth. It is always easier to do the wrong thing but hard to do the right thing.People often concentrate on the bigger picture and forget the little details that make the picture even bigger. These statements are not designed to attack a specific individual but just to make a few points clearer. It is GMP that terminated the contract with Oxygen Communications and not the other way round. However, we have been on good communication terms ever since.GMP or Gazza never went to media houses threatening to boycott the awards.Whoever did so and for what reason, we at GMP don’t know.Yes, we did receive a call from the journalist of a local weekly and he quoted me correctly.Yes, I personally had doubts whether or not to join the upcoming music awards. Not for selfish ambitions but rather for the interest of the music industry.I must stress that I like competition very much because it encourages us artists to be at the best of our creativity and we at GMP are doing just that.I have no single grain of fear whatsoever because my album ‘467 GMP Till I Die’, which is Namibia’s 1st double CD, is one of the best albums this country has ever produced. Not because I am saying so, but because the sales proved it.It has more than doubled the record of units sold per day, per week and per month. It has currently more than doubled the record at the Universal Sounds Top 20, being at number one for more than 23 weeks now whilst the previous record holder was at the helm for 11 weeks.(From the day it was released till to date). The video for the song Mokasie is no doubt one of the best videos this country has ever seen, leading to nomination of the best kwaito video on Channel O.Thus, there is absolutely no reason to fear the competition.May I reveal that my earlier fear not to join the upcoming music awards was prompted by the very question of whether the exercise was going to be transparent? It must be stressed that the awards should serve the purpose it was intended so that any award winners can take national pride in it.At first I had rejected to join but after thorough consideration I’ve made up my mind having realised that since this is a national competition after all; and have fans to represent and please, I concluded that taking part would contribute to national harmony and to the development of arts in Namibia. The issue of the organisers being directly involved with artists – does it not create conflict of interest? Following the letter in the Informante stating that it was the same case when I won last year, is it then too late to change it and if not now then when? If that was the case last year, then this year if I win even one award I don’t want it to be in the same manner that is causing damage and pain to other artists. We do not want repeat history; yesterday is not today. To conclude I have no doubt whatsoever that the organisers will do a good job regarding these areas of concern in order to maintain, not only their own image and reputation, but also those of their sponsors and auditing companies, and equally so to avoid platforms which create beef amongst artists. To my fans, we are in.Gazza Via e-mailIt seems it is at times hard to tell the truth but easy to lie.Very often lies seem to be more convincing than the truth.
