Further investigations conducted into Big Brother Mzanzi ‘incident’

FOLLOWING the recent controversy caused by an alleged sexual incident between Big Brother Mzanzi housemates Adams (Siyanda Ngwenya) and Bexx (Axola Mbengo), MultiChoice has yet to reveal the exact nature of what exactly took place.

“At this stage, it is not exactly clear what transpired between Bexx and Adams. Having suspected that there may have been an incident of sexual misconduct, Mzansi Magic acted by removing both individuals from the house,” reads the statement from MultiChoice Africa.

The satellite television provider went on to state that Mzansi Magic is continuing to investigate the incident.

An earlier statement about the fate of the two former housemates simply noted that both Bexx and Adams were receiving support and assistance from Mzansi Magic and that they had the opportunity to chat to professionals and their family and friends.

On how future misbehaviour is to be possibly avoided and a safer environment ensured for current and future housemates, MultiChoice Africa said: “All the housemates are aware of the rules of the show.

“Any incident that affects the health and well-being of the contestants is treated seriously and action will always be taken swiftly and appropriately.”

Meanwhile, a Times Live story published on Sunday reports that the pair are being kept in a hotel for “debriefing and counselling,” and have not yet been allowed to return home.

The article quotes M-Net CEO Yolisa Phahle, who released a statement, saying they had appointed law firm Cliffe Dekker Hofmeyr to independently investigate recent events.

“Big Brother’s executive producer from Endemol Shine Africa has reported a suspicion of sexual misconduct to the police, as required by law. No charges have been laid.

“The broadcaster views the incident in a serious light, and the wellbeing of the contestants remains of utmost importance. Any possible further action that may be taken will be informed by the findings of the investigation.”
