Fransfontein Bonanza to promote unity

• Juliet UirasUNITY will be the underlying theme of the upcoming Dr Uirab Fransfontein Christmas Soccer Bonanza.

The annual bonanza’s programme, which also has the Miss Fransfontein Beauty Pageant among its highlights, runs from 25 to 27 December.

Now in its fifth year, the event is organised for residents of Fransfontein and surrounding settlements.

‘’It is important to state that the concept and idea of the bonanza is solely for Fransfontein and surrounding farms with the overarching goal of uniting the people to socialise and have fun,’’ said Reginald Roman, the chief organiser.

The festivities are expected to be even bigger and better than before, Roman said.

‘’Therefore, all sons and daughters of Fransfontein and surrounding farms are urged to come home every festive season and be part of the festivities,’’ he said. ‘’Plans are under way to create a platform for networking during the duration of the tournament for the development of Fransfontein as we have learned that many sons and daughters are in strategic sectors all over the country.’’

Roman said the quality of football drew large crowds in previous editions, a feature that is expected to continue this year.

The competing teams are Fransfontein A, Fransfontein B, 60 Posts, Karetes, Tsaraxa-aibes/Olifantsputs, Petrusfontein, Bamm-Post, Tsourob, //Gurus Murorua/Uirab, Gainatseb, Tsumamis, Eastwood, Mopanie and Berg Post.

All teams are requested to also register contestants for the beauty pageant and netball competition. The reigning Miss Fransfontein is Tikhoe Uises from farm Tsourob.

Four veterans from each team are also expected to participate in the 400m relay.

The sponsorship for the event from Dr David Uirab has grown from N$7 000 in 2011 to N$50 000 for this year’s event.

The football takes up the biggest chunk of the sponsorship with N$28 000 budgeted for it, while the rest goes towards netball, the beauty pageant, music show and other logistical arrangements. This year, the registration fee has increased from N$100 to N$200 to cover for rising costs.

The prizes are as follows: Winners – 22 gold medals, floating trophy, N$5 000; Runner-ups – 22 silver medals, N$3 000; Third place – 22 bronze medals, N$2 000; Fourth place – N$1 000; most disciplined team – N$400; best goalkeeper – N$250, top goal scorer – N$250; top match official – N$200.
