So the R&B star Omarion is in town tonight. That’s right. The ‘Icebox’ hitmaker is performing later and the show promises to be a life changer. At least, that’s what we heard.
And like the days when Trey Songz came to the Land of the Brave, women are probably going to be the most excited. After all, Omarion is there to provide us with a bare chest, hypnotising gyration and a memorable show. For the sake of entertainment, mos. Also, there are probably seven to eight other shows this weekend.
Now, keeping this in mind, something happened in South Africa that really had me concerned. The hip-hop trio Migos performed in Johannesburg and a whole lot of controversy surrounded their show because a few women (nicknamed stocko) were handpicked to join the crew at some penthouse where they had the time of their lives. Allegedly.
Honestly, it’s so unnecessary to objectify women like that. Stocko? Who came up with that? Are we products on a shelf?
And the excuses I heard were crazy. “The women went there by themselves so they deserved it (to be judged on social media).” Excuse me? So if I am a slay queen, I deserve to be judged?
Before I go on, let me explain what a slay queen is. And no, this has nothing to do with her relationships or where she gets her income from. That’s none of our business, please.
So yes, a slay queen: The woman whose face beats are so on point, you won’t even believe it’s her. You might hear her say: “Make-up by Hannah” or “make-up by Stacey” or any other make-up artist who has the goods. And they never let just anyone touch their faces. Never.
Also, body goals. I mean, they’ve been hitting the gym like crazy. Drinking water with cucumbers in them… We saw. And the dress part? It’s all about accentuating the curves. That could mean a tight fitting dress or a casual look like you just walked out of a shoot in the desert. This has somehow gained them followers on Instagram. Over 10k sometimes.
There’s a vibe in their IG stories. Kind of like an aesthetic. And speaking of social media, they have that down. Snapchat, WhatsApp, etc. They make people watch them. They make people want to be like them. They create a curiosity about their lives. Maybe they have an iPhone, maybe they don’t. As long as the photo quality is good, it’s fine. And the key is in the posing. Also, they have the fashion terms down. Styling isn’t about putting a white shirt and black pants together. Its about the intricacy of creativity.
And men, as much as you love to make fun of these kind of women, don’t believe that all of them are coming to steal your wallet and take off. Also, they are not objects of your sexual pleasure, so do not treat them as such.
Women are women. Y’all saw the hashtag, #MeToo? Let women be who they want to be and stop judging, asseblief. Not everyone is dressing up to bag a rich man. She’s already independent. If she wants a rich man though, that’s her story. Not yours.
Also, celebs and inviting women to their hotel rooms, etc…? Problematic. We can’t trust people these days. We can’t even look good without someone thinking that they have a right to touch us, abuse us, etc.
It’s disgusting behaviour!
Men, get your act together and for goodness sake, leave our ladies alone and let them party in peace. Matter of fact, abusers, thieves, the lot of you, stop.
