IN the month of June countries all over the world celebrate the international language called music. Namibians will celebrate World Music Day with free open-air concerts happening in all the major towns including Windhoek, Swakopmund. Oshakati, Katima Mulilo and Keetmanshoop on Saturday June 16.
The Franco-Namibian Cultural Centre (FNCC) announced that the registrations for artists is now open. The free music festival which started in France in 1982 has spread to numerous cities and countries around the world and today is celebrated on all five continents. The FNCC introduced World Music Day to Namibia in 1996 and the event has over the years provided a platform for many upcoming artists not only in Windhoek, but also in the regions to take the stage and be recognised.The deadline for registrations is May 18. Only selected registered artists will be called for auditions. Registration forms for World Music Day are available countrywide at the following points: in Windhoek at FNCC, NTN and Base FM; at Swakopmund at Alliance Française; in Oshakati from Street House or Remind Trading Enterprises; at Katima Mulilo at the Katima Youth Centre. In the south registration forms are available at Keetmanshoop at the Multi Purpose Youth Resource Centre.Registration forms can also be downloaded from www.fncc.org.na and e-mailed to reception@fncc.org.na
