The former president of the South West Africa National Union (Swanu), Rihupisa Kandando, has died.
This was confirmed by the secretary general of a faction of the party, Ngaijake Tjikuzu.
According to Tjikuzu, Kandando (60) died on Saturday.
Tjikuzu says Kandando died after being hospitalised for about three weeks.
A few weeks ago media reports alleging Kandando had died were dismissed by his family.
The family at the time admitted that he was, however, in a critical condition.
Kandando was Swanu’s leader from 1998 until Usutuaije Maamberua took over in 2007.
He replaced Vekuii Rukoro.
