ELEVEN Champions were crowned the Khomas Football Second Division league winners for the first time after completion of the final league matches over the weekend.
Eleven Champions lost their final match 1-0 to Swallows on Sunday, but with their closest rivals, Afrika Rassap losing 3-1 to City Boys, Eleven Champions went on to claim the title with 60 points.
Swallows eventually finished second on 57 points, while Rassap finished third, also on 57 points, but with an inferior goal difference.
Eleven Champions will now be involved in play-off matches with other regional second division winners to determine which teams will be promoted to the Southern Stream First Division. The chairman of the Khomas Football Region David Morgan said he expected them to do well.
“Eleven Champions are worthy winners of the league – they only lost four matches the whole season and I believe they will represent the Khomas region well at the playoffs and gain promotion to the Southern Stream First Division,” he said.
Wesley Otto of Young Ones was the league’s top goal scorer with a great strike rate of 39 goals in 26 matches, while Regiano Goagoseb of Swallows won the goal keeper of the league award.
The league will be concluded with the League Cup tournament in Windhoek this coming weekend and Morgan called on companies or individuals to help sponsor
“We would like to buy a trophy and medals for the tournament, so I would appreciate it if someone can help us financially,” he said.
The playoff matches for the Southern Stream First Division will also take place this coming weekend according to Morgan.
“They were supposed to take place last weekend, but some of the referees did not have funds to travel, but that is sorted now and the matches will go ahead this coming weekend,” he said.
Blue Boys of Swakopmund will play Young Brazilian of Karasburg home and away to gain promotion to the Namibia Premier League next season.
Windhoek United will play Khomas Nampol for the third and fourth positions in the league.
