Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN) chairperson Elsie Nghikembua on Monday called on Namibians to participate in the selection process for the electoral body’s chief executive and referenda officer.
The ECN has released a list of five candidates vying for the top post.
They are Petrus Shaama, the ECN’s director of operations, Helmut Nawaseb, a legal officer in the Office of the President, and former academic Vincent Sazita.
Other candidates are Oscar Muyatwa, the director at the Office of the Prime Minister, and Michael Tjivikua, the former research director at the Namibia Institute of Public Administration and Management.
According to Nghikembua, the interviews will be open to the public, and members of the public can object to any of the shortlisted candidates in writing.
“I would like to encourage Namibians to take an interest in electoral matters. We want as many people as possible to come and attend the interviews, which are public.
“It’s in the interest of the nation that there is transparency, so that people will really know that everything the commission has done is above board,” she said.
Interviews will take place at the end of this month at the ECN’s offices in Windhoek.
