Katima Mulilo to get two new schools

Katima Mulilo is set to get two new schools after the town council resolved to donate land to ease classroom overcrowding.

This was confirmed by Zambezi regional education director Alex Sikume on Thursday following a notice issued by the Katima Mulilo Town Council to residents.

The notice says the council plans to donate two plots situated in Extension 27 and Townlands no 1328 to the Ministry of Education, Innovation, Youth, Sport, Arts, and Culture.

These two plots, measuring 2.52 hectares and 6 hectares, are valued at N$1.9 million and N$3.3 million, respectively.

Residents wishing to object to the resolutions regarding the sale and donation of immovable properties by private treaty have been notified by the town council.

Sikume said most schools at the town have more than 1 000 pupils enrolled, making it difficult for staff to manage them.

“There’s a need for two new schools in town to decongest the schools for better management and learning. These two plots that will be donated by the town council will help make that a reality,” he said.

In the notice, the town council says it also resolved to sell four other plots to the Northern Regional Electricity Distributor (Nored) and three other local residents for residential uses.

Nored’s 6913m² plot is situated in Extension 10 and is valued at N$794 996.

The notice gives residents with objections to the sale of these plots until 17 August to hand-deliver their letters to the Office of the Acting Chief Executive.
