Cry, Beloved Etosha

TRAGEDIES HAPPEN.

The recent wildfire that engulfed Etosha National Park and communal land beyond Namibia’s world-famous tourist attraction is the worst in recent memory.

The fires at Etosha have exposed the poor management of our natural resources. Uncontrolled veldfires are common in the Kavango, Otjozondjupa and Zambezi regions. There those tragedies hardly get attention.

May the Etosha fire provide an impetus for the government to implement proactive measures aimed at preventing such tragedies from happening ever again.

It makes no sense that we market Namibia globally as a great nature conservation country and then have our lack of preparedness so glaringly exposed when disaster strikes.
