DRIKUS Coetzee gave a great display to win the Elite Men’s Individual Time Trial at the Namibia National Cycling Championships on Friday.
Coetzee completed the 44km time trila in a time of 55 minutes 18 seconds to finish well ahead of Martin Freyer (56:47), while Andre de Klerk came third (58:30).
Dan Craven came fourth in 59:18 and Horst Neumann fifth in 59:30.
There was quite an upset in the Elite Women’s race when the favourite Vera Adrian experienced technical difficulties with her bike and lost a lot of time.
She eventually had to settle for third place, covering the 22km event in 33:48, while Michelle Doman came first in 33:00 and Irene Steyn second in 33:39.
As a non-Namibian Doman could however not come into the reckoning for the national title, which was awarded to Steyn.
Alwyn Steenkamp won the Men’s u23 category over 44km in 1:00:20, followed by Alex Buchner (1:06:38) and Melksedek Hamukoto (1:10:20).
Charl du Plooy won the Junior Men’s category over 22km in 30:42, followed by Dieter Koen (31:27) and Schalk van der Merwe (31:40).
Pierre Knoetze won the Sub Veteran Men’s category over 22km in 30:52, followed by Cobus Smit (32:23) and Braam Vermeulen (33:20), while Allan Vivier won the Veteran Men’s category over 22km in 31:48, followed by Titus Koen (31:58) and Louis Peens (32:12).
With Vivier being a South African, the title went to Koen.
