Business Booms for Freeda

She was also a member of the Dungeon Family in the 1990s, which was partly responsible for pioneering Namibian contemporary music.

Her name is also synonymous with the dance moves that captivated our television screens and made us all believe Namibian RnB and Afro-pop can also be cool.

Since then, many have wondered what Freeda has been up to.

The 'Boom Boom' hitmaker says she has been focusing on her personal growth, family and business.

“Although music is a very important part of my life, I am prioritising our family business and legacy for now.

“So far, I'm enjoying seeing growth and expansion, especially in our family business, despite the challenges and restrictions that came with Covid-19,” she says.

Together with her husband, Freeda owns a number of businesses.

These include business consultancy, property development, audiovisual production and product distribution endeavours.

“Our oldest business was founded in 2002. I am responsible for Mazzaltov, an online marketplace, founded in 2017.

“Here we sell products ranging from earth-moving equipment, construction machinery, home and garden products, fashion, and music equipment,” Freeda says.

The singer plans to extend the couple's business interests to the international market.

Apart from business and family, she says she has also prioritised her personal growth, and desires to attain more wisdom.

“I give all the glory to God for the success in my life. Change is inevitable. We are supposed to change as living beings. Running an empire changes you, and being a wife and mother changes you. How and what you change into is what matters,” she says.

With a new perspective of life, Freeda is enjoying the things that matter, she says.

And she has no plans of slowing down her music career.

The songbird says she is working on new music and says fans can expect a new body of work.

“I have my private studio and a personal producer, and we have a lot of music waiting to be released. The plan and strategy for the next project that should be out in the not-so-distant future have been crafted,” she says.

Freeda describes her greatest achievement as a musician as being able to distribute her music globally, and performing with international stars.

“I cannot emphasise the satisfaction that came from earning a living from my passion enough,” she says.

Gal Level won numerous awards, with the highlight being its 2008 Channel O Music Awards win in the best RnB music video category, catapulting them to continental stardom.

With classic albums like 'Shake It' and 'Act like You Know', the duo took the world by storm with timeless hits like 'Shake It', 'Go Back to Her', and 'Story of my Life'.

Despite separating, who can ever forget when they stepped onto the stage during the 2016 Namibian Annual Music Awards (NAMAs) at Ramatex, Windhoek, and took fans on a trip down memory lane as they performed some of their biggest hits like 'Kom Speel' and 'Go Back to Her'?

Freeda released her debut album, titled 'Just Freeda' in 2013.

Her album 'Chronicles' (released in 2015) bagged her six nominations at the 2016 MTC/NBC NAMAs.

In 2017, she became the first Namibian musician to grace the stage at Africa's prestigious music show, Coke Studio Africa.

With a career spanning well over two decades, Freeda encourages those who want to live a fulfilling life to keep chasing their dreams.

“I would like to let women know you were created uniquely to fulfil a special purpose. That special purpose is entrenched in your dreams.

“Your hopes and dreams are achievable. Have faith that you were never created to be a failure and success is the ultimate reward.” – unWrap.online
