Bowls women prepare for Games

THE national women’s bowling team’s preparations for the 2010 Commonwealth Games are going well, their coach says.

Coach Catherina Swart told Nampa yesterday that the women are training twice per week and are competing in local games over weekends.According to Swart, the bowlers will take part in a bowling tournament known as ‘Oreva Trips’ at the Bowling Green of the Windhoek Country Club from Thursday to Saturday this week. She said Namibia’s chances of bringing home medals are good, despite the fact that the players are going to compete against professional bowlers at the Commonwealth Games.’Those other teams have bowlers who play the sport professionally while ours do it only on a part-time basis,’ said Swart. In 1998, the ladies’ bowling team brought home a silver medal in the pairs category from the Commonwealth Games held in Malaysia. The women’s national bowling team is made up of Charlotte Morland, Diana Viljoen, Lesley Vermeulen, Theuna Grobler and Beatrix Lamprecht. – Nampa
