All Roads Lead To… Brewer & Butcher

Beer, beef and a view of the blue. That’s Swakopmund’s Brewer & Butcher in a sentence.

Situated at the Mole and overlooking the ocean at the coastal town, the sprawling steakhouse is a beer lover’s dream given its penchant for pairing each and every menu item with the best brew for its flavours while the Swakopmund Brewing Company produces craft beer on site.

For a tasting on a sunny Saturday afternoon, the go-to man is young Glenn Uahindua. A bartender and trainee brewer who schools me on kettles, mashes, the pale Helles and the amber Märzen. A quick at-your-own-risk tour of the micro-brewery which is currently in renovation offers a glimpse into a respectable operation. One that serves the steady call for the full-bodied Märzen that is a Brewer & Butcher bestseller.

A Bavarian lager named March referring to the month in which it is produced, the Märzen, the traditional beer of Oktoberfest, is paired with a variety of Brewer & Butcher’s carnivorous eats. The Nguni brisket burger, shisa nyama board, the ever popular carnivore pizza, oxtail mac and cheese, signature Jack Daniels baby back pork ribs and your selection of mouthwatering flame-grilled items such as a Tomahawk on the bone, lamb, rump, sirloin and game.

With an Urbock recommended alongside Walvis Bay oysters, a creamy garlic mussel pot best with a Helles and their signature barbecue wings a friend of amber ale, Brewer & Butcher leaves no meal lonely while non-beer drinkers can enjoy a selection of classic alcoholic and virgin cocktails.

A stylish situation despite its laidback leanings which include big-screen televisions for sport, a sweet solo bar, sunny terrace and a little lounge, Brewer & Butcher is a must for beer enthusiasts who love great meat, excellent service and satisfied sighs.

Brewer & Butcher is situated at Strand Hotel at the Mole at Swakopmund. Opening hours are 12h00 to 22h00.
