KALIMBEZA – The University of Namibia (Unam) has approved the establishment of a Faculty of Agriculture and Natural Resources at its Katima Mulilo campus.
The Katima Mulilo campus currently only offers a Bachelor’s in Education.Katima Mulilo campus deputy dean, Dr Bennett Kangumu, said on Tuesday that as from 2013, the campus will start offering the Bachelor of Science in Agriculture and Natural Resources.He was speaking during President Hifikepunye Pohamba’s visit to the Kalimbeza Rice project on the same day, stating that the course will focus on different specialisation areas such as agriculture and natural resources, fisheries, tourism and water management. The course will enable students who enrol for the programme to interact with the Kalimbeza Rice Project for research, experimentation and practical activities. It would also further strengthen extension services to communities.By the middle of next year, the Katima Mulilo campus should have completed staff recruitment for the faculty, as well as the construction of a laboratory.Courses in Agriculture and Natural Resources are currently only offered at Unam’s Neudamm and Ogongo agricultural colleges. – Nampa
