A night of community and creativity

Poetry lovers gathered in the heart of the capital at the Hilton Hotel for the Top Score Poetry in Motion event on Thursday.

The event is a platform where vibrant poets are selected to perform with a live band in front of an audience.

This time around the theme was ‘At the Table’ to celebrate community and creativity.

Local poets such as Benicia Aihuki, Edwig Hamukwaya and Spyder graced the stage with their performances.

“Audience members couldn’t have expected anything short of a literary soundscape of rhythm and spoken word,” Mel Dreyer, one of the founders of Poetry in Motion, says.

Many poets took the opportunity to showcase their art to their loved ones and the public for the first time, revealing new dimensions of their creativity.

Edwin Hamukwaya (23), who is a first-time performer, praised the team for the work they have done.

“The team we worked with was incredibly supportive and patient. I am grateful for a platform like this to enhance and display my art,” he says.

Audience member Ruth Shipale (21) says: “It was an amazing event. The team cultivated a well-organised and warm atmosphere. It was inspiring to see young artists supported and thriving.”

This event marked the sixth instalment of Poetry in Motion since its inception in October last year.
