Pinehas NakazikoMERELY a month after the song ‘Kombaanga’ (‘At the Bank’) went viral, budding singer and producer Victor Shilikomwenyo, well-known as Zomblam, finally speaks about the song which got many people talking.
‘Kombaanga’, an Afro-pop gem produced under Uncle V music production, was one of the most-played songs during the past festive season.
The song earned its mark among locals and also topped local radio charts. Apart from that, ‘Kombaanga’ was played almost everywhere countrywide, starting from private parties, cars, shebeens, and on social media.
Zomblam says he wrote the song for people to enjoy themselves at festivals and other occasions where they meet while listening to good music.
“I came up with the idea of the song to express myself on how some people behave when they get paid. The lyrics of the song also say it all: ‘It is month-end… I got paid, and I want to buy booze for my neighbour’,” explains Zomblam.
The song also talks about how people spend their salaries during the festive season.
When Zomblam released the song, he never thought it would go viral the way it did. He says he thought people were making fun of the song, but realised they like it, and it was just a hit.
Commenting on the song being recorded in a small shack studio, Zomblam says there is no difference between a song recorded in a small or big studio, but what matters is the quality and how it was mastered.
Although ‘Kombaanga’ was regarded as a single by many, Zomblam makes it clear it was part of his second album, ‘Matured Music for Matured People’.
The 19-track album was released at the end of last year. It features young talents such as D Kandjafa, Mbongolosh, Kangweson, Makilla, Pendapala, Figo Pohamba, Nelson, and a small sensational singer, Lita.
Other hit songs on the album are ‘Gumwe Tati’ featuring Makilla, ‘Onderidropa Vaferstane’, and ‘Topoleni’.
Zomblam’s plans for this year are to produce a video of ‘Kombaanga’. He also plans to produce another album set for release by the end of the year.
Zomblam is not new to the music industry as he started singing way back in 2015.
His first single, ‘Aakulunu’, was released in 2016, giving him a breakthrough into the music industry.
