The national women’s under-20 football team will host South Africa at the Sam Nujoma Stadium on Saturday in an international friendly.
According to the Brave Gladiators coach Jacqui Shipanga, the Namibian team includes many youngsters being groomed for an eventful 2012 programme for the women’s teams.The senior side takes on Tanzania in an African Women Championship qualifier January 15 at home, while the under-17s face South Africa in a World Cup qualifier on January 22. The under-20s are scheduled to host Ghana in another World Cup qualifier on February 19.’We have a lot of competitions next year and surely we need to give as many players as possible the opportunity to play and be match fit and so this game against South Africa will come in handy for our team really,’ Shipanga said. Shipanga added that the team will be missing some key personnel due to school examinations. But she said they were fortunate to have a great pool of players to choose from and have adequately filled the vacant slots in the side.
