Women’s Super League to kick off

THE Namibia Football Association’s Women’s Super League (WSL) will start tomorrow at the Windhoek College of Education.

After two years of inactivity, the league will kick off with six teams making up the WSL.Jackey Gertze from the NFA Women’s Desk said there was a need for strong competition for the female football players.’Our U/13, U/16, U/17 and U/20 as well as the Brave Gladiators have been performing very well over the past few years but to sustain that a very strong competition platform needs to be created,’ Gertze said.’And that is how we decided on an eight round, six team league and we will complete the league with a three day cup tournament,’ she added.The teams in the league are JS Academy, 21 BDE United, Okahandja Beauties, Poly Babes, Unam Bokkies and Challengers FC.In the first match tomorrow, Poly Babes will face Okahandja Beauties at 09h00.Poly Babes acquired the services of Gladiators striker Stella Williams who used to play for Okahandja Beauties. They also have national players Queen Manga, and Ellencia Games on their books.Okahandja Beauties on the other hand will have players like Gladiators goalkeeper Susanna Eises, Bonita Eixas, Kleintjie Fredericks and Botswana international Thuuto Ramafifi. They will be coached by Bryan van Staden.In the second match of the day, Challengers will face JS Academy at 10h50 at the same venue.Challengers are new to the Namibian women’s football scene and could be the surprise package for the league.JS Academy is a combination of youth players and a few senior players. They will have the services of Zenatha Coleman before she flies off to Germany for trials at Borrussia Bocholt-Germany at the end of August.Other players that will turn out for JS Academy will include, Emma Naris, Carmel Don, Abrille Beukes and Mungulukeni Hamata.In the last match of the weekend, Unam Bokkes will play 21 BDE United at 12h40.21 BDE United is based at the NDF Base Sports ground at Luiperdsvallei and will have players like Wendoline Nailonga and Helena Iipingeion their line-up.Unam Bokkies were one of the founding teams of the women’s league in Namibia.
