Women’s Super League set for thrilling finish

THE NFA Women’s Super League concludes this weekend with Jacqueline Shipanga Academy and Poly Babes seeking to win the second season.

The Academy lead the six-team league with 46 points from 18 matches played with an impressive 115 goal-difference. They need only a single point from their remaining two matches to clinch their first crown. In second place are the defending champions Okahandja Beauties, who are six points adrift and ahead of third-placed Poly Babes only on virtue of having a superior goal difference.Babes are also the league’s leading scorers with 131 goals and have a mathematical chance of sneaking to title glory ahead of the Academy should they win both their games and their rivals fail to pick up any points. The Academy kick off tomorrow’s games with a match against fourth-placed 21 Brigade United at 12h00 at the Eldorado Secondary School Field, while Poly Babes will take on fellow students Unam Bokkies at 13h50 at the same venue. On Sunday, action shifts to the NFA Technical Centre where Poly Babes take on the Academy at 10h00 – in what could be an academic outing, provided that Academy win the day before. That match will be followed by an encounter featuring Beauties against Unam Bokkies at 11h50.Should results go their way, fifth-placed Bokkies have the chance to improve their final position on the table and go into the final weekend on 18 points, four behind 21 Brigade United in fourth.Challengers will finish bottom of the log. They have already completed their season, in which they managed a solitary draw and lost 19 games. Challengers also found scoring goals challenging as they could only master three while they shipped a record 132.Beauties’ captain Emerencia Fredericks leads the score chart with 40 goals for the season, with teammate Juliana Skrywer in second on 28 and the Academy’s Zenata Coleman third with 21. Following the final match of the season on Sunday afternoon at the NFA Technical Centre, the NFA Women’s Desk will crown the new league champions and honour individual award winners.
