Women dominate at 2018 NAMAs

THE 2018 Namibia Annual Music Awards was dominated by mostly women who scooped award after award.

Sally Boss Madam walked with the best female of the year statue as well as the best R&B for her song ‘Ecstacy’.

Chikune exuded women power with her best collaboration and best Afro-pop awards, while Suzy Eises swept the stage with the best newcomer and best album of the year awards.

‘Warakat’ by One Blood stood out as the best song of the year.

Blessed with the presence of the first couple President Hage Geingob and First Lady Monica Geingos, the night was however concluded with mixed feelings.

Gazza, who initially had two videos nominated in the best video category and was later stripped of one, redeemed himself by scooping the best video award.

In his acceptance speech, Gazza said the category was filled with controversy amongst artists, however he makes his music for the people.

“I do what I do not for the artists but for the public, and to put Namibia on the map. I am here to push Namibia forward,” he enthused.

Bullet ya Kaoko won best oviritje while best Damara punch went to Kalux and best soukous/kwasa to PDK for ‘Shike Naana’.

Best reggae of the year was awarded to D-Naff, best Kwaito went to Exit with ‘Oludalo Lange’ while the best rap/hip-hop award was won by KP Illest for ‘Okay Okay’.

South African gqom group Distruction Boyz won best pan African artist, while Sam-E Lee Jones scooped the best producer award for ‘Still in Love’ by Teqla.
