Windhoek residents are being urged to use water sparingly following a possible water supply interruption expected to affect most parts of the capital for up to 24 hours.
The City of Windhoek issued a warning on Thursday after damage to a pipeline supplying water from the Von Bach Water treatment plant disrupted supply from bulk water supplier NamWater.
The municipality says the incident has placed pressure on the city’s already limited water reserves.
“As this incident was unplanned, the city’s available water reserves are currently limited,” the notice reads.
Residents have been advised to restrict water usage to essential purposes only while repair works continue in an effort to stabilise supply across Windhoek.
The municipality said the interruption could last approximately 24 hours as teams work to restore normal water supply.
The City of Windhoek apologised for the inconvenience caused and appealed for public cooperation and understanding during the interruption period.
The latest disruption again indicates ongoing water supply challenges facing the capital amid growing demand and pressure on ageing infrastructure, reads the notice.
