Namibia will host its first Hyrox simulation in Windhoek, combining running and strength challenges to promote fitness, community well-being, and sport tourism.
The event will take place at Ramatex in Windhoek on 25 October.
Event organiser and Namibia Fitness Games founder Simba Munene says the PstBet Namibia Fitness Games Hyrox Simulation aims to unite Namibians from all walks of life under the banner of health and wellness, while positioning Windhoek as a growing hub for fitness tourism.
“The event is designed to bring together gym-goers, runners, corporates, families, and the wider community through fitness,” Munene says.
“It also gives local athletes a chance to prepare for Hyrox races internationally.”
Hyrox, a global fitness competition that originated in Germany, combines endurance running with functional fitness stations such as sled pushes, rowing, burpee broad jumps and wall balls. Each event typically attracts between 500 and 15 000 participants worldwide.
“Hyrox offers a new dynamic to racing, balancing endurance with strength,” Munene says.
“It broadens the appeal of competitive fitness while supporting traditional road running.”
The Windhoek event, hosted by the Namibia Fitness Games team in partnership with FitCity and PstBet, is open to all fitness levels, with categories for solo athletes, doubles and four-member relay teams.
Corporate teams are also encouraged to participate as part of wellness and team-building initiatives.
“Individuals who aren’t ready for the full challenge can share it with a partner or team,” Munene says. “It’s about accessibility and participation, not just competition.”
Beyond testing physical limits, the initiative seeks to promote mental and social well-being by showing that fitness can be both fun and transformative.
“Movements like this have a powerful community impact,” Munene notes. “They create positive habits and routines, shifting focus away from negative influences and helping reduce challenges like stress, isolation and even rising suicide rates.”
He says such events foster a sense of belonging and purpose, particularly among young people and professionals.
“By giving people a reason to come together, Hyrox inspires Namibians to live more active, connected and healthy lives,” he says.
The all-day event will run from 08h00 to 20h00, featuring live DJs, entertainment and a vibrant race atmosphere designed to motivate both athletes and spectators.
“This milestone event is a step toward making Namibia a health-conscious nation, where fitness and community well-being are celebrated,” Munene says.
