Windhoek charity fundraising gets bigger and better

THE charity drive that was born from a social media tweet is into its second year with more sponsors, volunteers and a greater opportunity to make a difference to the lives of more underprivileged children.

Windhoek Charity Fundraising is back with its founders who last year handed over N$250 000 worth of food, toiletries and other necessities as well as utility payments which benefited over 1 200 children living in four children’s homes in the city.

The group plans raising even more this time around through various activities that will take place at the University of Namibia sports field. Participants can take part in soccer, netball, volleyball, chess, tug of war and chess.

Social and corporate teams can register to participate for N$700 and N$1500 respectively by 10 March, for the event set to take place on Saturday 17 March from 09h00.

“There are three ways to get involved, by signing up as a volunteer on our website, by making a donation of either food, blankets, clothes, etc, or by sponsoring the event itself through offering certain services or providing facilities that can make the event better,” said the fundraising head of digital marketing, Eben Haihambo.

For those who are wondering what to expect at the tournament, Haihambo had this to say:

“The tournament will feature a blend of corporate and social teams made up of celebrities and influencers ( i.e The Dogg, Gazza etc), and have One Africa Television as our broadcast partner.”

Setting their target for this year’s charity drive, the group aims to raise at least N$500 000 in donations to benefit four children’s homes with Tilovayeni Care Centre being the primary recipient.

While acknowledging the impact their efforts have had on needy children so far, the group is also aiming to leave a long-term impact in the homes and communities that will benefit from the charity drive.
